Facebook and Instagram have unveiled a new policy that will restrict posts containing tobacco. The new policy which will be welcome by some manufacturers and most retailers will see the social media giants prohibit all private sales, trades, transfers and gifting of alcohol and tobacco products. In the past many hard to find cigars have undergone price gouging in the secondary market which has thrived on Facebook.
Meanwhile, brands will have to restrict their content to adults 18 or older which The Cigar Authority currently does on their Facebook page.
According to a spokeswoman from Facebook the social network is currently in the process of notifying administrators of groups to the new changes. Groups that fail to curtail the sale and trades of tobacco and/or alcohol could be removed under the new policy.
The policy was put into effect July 24, 2019.
