Law | Marion, IA Bans Smoking In Parks & Trails

For the past month the Marion City Council has been toying with the idea to ban smoking and the use of tobacco and vapors in the city’s 21 parks and on its nature trails. Yesterday, that measure was passed with a 6-1 vote. The lone vote against it was Mayor Snooks Bouska.

The ban goes into effect on August 1st and violators will be subjected to a $50 fine starting September 1st, 2015. However, despite these official rulings the Police Chief Harry Daugherty told the city council he will not enforce the ban until after the annual Swamp Fox Festival which takes place on September 26.

Marion, IA is home to 36,000 residents over 16.06 square miles and was incorporated in 1839.
