The Micallef Black Gordo is a new Two Guys Cigars exclusive extension of the Micallef Black line, originally introduced in 2023 as part of Micallef Cigars’ Color Series. Crafted by master blenders Joel and Edel Gomez-Sanchez, this Gordo format features a dark Mexican San Andrés wrapper over an Ecuadorian Habano binder and Nicaraguan fillers.
The cigar carries an attractive Maduro appearance with a fine tooth, slight oiliness, minimal veins, and nearly invisible seams. In the hand, it feels densely packed, firm, and substantial, finished with a clean triple cap.
The first third opens on the milder side with notes of charred oak barrel, black pepper, salted peanuts, and toasted almonds. There’s a soft creaminess throughout the profile accompanied by touches of caramel, earthy tobacco, and cocoa. A peppery bite develops early on with hints of garlic bread, floral notes, lemon pepper, and sweet bran layered with cinnamon. Coffee, vanilla bean, and burnt graham cracker emerge toward the end of the first third alongside a subtle touch of orange zest. The smoke remains smooth and flavorful without becoming overwhelming.
Moving into the second third, the cigar becomes richer and more defined with notes of graphite, espresso, hot cocoa, and leather. Graham cracker, cocoa powder, and spice remain present while sweet cream and cedar begin to take over the profile. White pepper lingers lightly on the retrohale as black licorice and earthy tobacco continue to build depth. Strong black coffee notes replace some of the earlier sweetness while cinnamon, clove, hickory wood, and chocolate chips create a darker, fuller character. The aroma off the cigar remains inviting and balanced.
The final third shifts toward a nuttier profile with almonds replacing the earlier peanut notes. Creamy coffee flavors reminiscent of a White Russian combine with earthy tobacco and returning black pepper. A spicy marshmallow note appears alongside black coffee and cedar through the retrohale. Black licorice continues into the finish while espresso notes linger in the background. Leather, bitters, wood, clove, and chocolate chips close out the cigar with a rich and satisfying finish.
What stands out most about the Micallef Black Gordo is the amount of complexity packed into a large-ring gauge cigar. Gordos can often become one-dimensional, but the Micallef Black Gordo consistently delivers flavor variation and subtle transitions throughout the entire smoking experience. Construction remains solid from start to finish with an impressively even burn, excellent draw, and thick smoke production for well over two hours. The flavor profile stays smooth, rich, and balanced the entire way through without any harshness or flaws. The Micallef Black Gordo is an enjoyable and flavorful cigar that leaves the smoker wanting more by the end at the right price.
