Oregon House To Vote On 65% Cigar Tax

While the Republicans are not flawless, the Democrats are about to strike again on cigars in Oregon. Over the past year, I continue to notice a trend of Democrats taking away our freedoms as cigar smokers, and looking to raise taxes.

This time the Oregon House is set to vote on raising taxes and included in the bill is removing the cap on premium cigars in order to extend expiring tax credits for people with low incomes.

The state currently has a 50 cent cap on premium cigars, but that cap might be removed when the bill goes before the House Revenue Committee on Tuesday and a decision is made on whether or not to send it before the full house.

If the cap is removed, premium cigars would be taxed at 65% of the whole sale price which means a $10.00 cigar would become $16.50 after taxes.

It is not know if the measure would pass the more conservative Senate once it gets out of the House.
