The Last Chance to Try a Historic Cigar
It was late in 2009 when at Two Guys Smoke Shop we began preparing for our 25th Anniversary Party. We asked every manufacturer that we were dealing with (in any large capacity) if they wanted to take part in our big event. At Two Guys Smoke Shop’s 25th Silver Anniversary event, we would be giving away a Rolls Royce Silver Spur and 250 4oz pure silver bars that were to be minted with the logos of all of the brands participating.
The first twenty-five manufacturers to respond quickly took up all the spots and some were unfortunately left out of the event. We were also looking for someone to make a very special, Two Guys 25th Anniversary Cigar. Our challenge was to get the right manufacturer to make it and while we were trying to figure out who, in pops “Mr. X” into my office. He was left out of our event as they were late coming up with their decision, but Mr X asked if he could be part of it anyway by providing the special Two Guys Smoke Shop 25th Anniversary cigar. He had me try the samples he provided and explained why this was a very special cigar. Not being a participant in the event I thought it wouldn’t be right to promote them and he agreed, to my surprise. He said I could utilize the cigars for the event but I would not be able to tell anyone who made it and who blended it or anything if I agreed, and I did.
I offered the cigars to the manufacturers at the event and they all asked who made it but I never told. We offered the cigars for sale for $200 for two cigars and included the collectors silver bar to go along with it. We even made a comic book telling the story of our quest for the best cigar, and in the comic book we gave hints to who showed up in my office and at the end of the comic book we showed how the deal went down while never revealing the true identity of Mr X.
That was 6 years ago today that that meeting took place and today I will finally reveal who made it and who blended it, for the first time ever. I will also put these cigars, now aged over 5 years, out for sale as we will be celebrating our 30th Anniversary next week. So here we go…
Pete Johnson from Tatuaje Cigars came into my office six years ago today, as we were working on the cigar band for a cigar we had not yet chosen. We sat in my office and I asked him what he thought of the band, if it needed to be changed or tweaked in any way. He said he liked it but looked unhappy as he was looking at it. As it turned out, he was unhappy that he hadn’t acted on our invitation and believed this was truly a special occasion, Two Guys 25th Anniversary in the cigar business. I quickly explained that it was not a problem and we were filled-up to the max, with the 25 cigar companies we were looking for already, a year in advance. And then he made me the offer. “Pepin Garcia and I would like to supply the cigars for the Anniversary.” They had a very special blend and a very special cigar and they would like to give them to me as a gift. I smoked the cigar, it was special and exactly what I was looking for, and I certainly couldn’t beat the price… it was a gift and what a gift it was. But how could I use a cigar from two of the companies who were not participating in the event and not included in the minted silver bars that showed all the companies that participated?
That was answered by Pete who said, “Don’t tell who made it or who blended it” that will be our secret and congratulated me on 25 years in the business. I gracefully accepted the offer and held up my side of the bargain until now. Blended by Pete Johnson and made by Pepin Garcia in 2009 for sale only once in 2010 until now.
I smoke one every year in celebration of our Anniversary and I believe these cigars have peaked… they will never smoke better than they do today, so I have to chain smoke them or finally sell them… I decided to do both… so here’s three ways you can get them.
OPTION #1 – Buy any box of My Father, Don Pepin or Tatuaje Cigars and we’ll throw in (2) Two Guys 25th Anniversary Cigars with each box and we’ll even include Issue #1 of the Comic Book “The Adventures of Two Guys – Quest for the Best Cigar!” (This is issue number 1 but there was only 1 issue ever made- FYI)
OPTION #2 – Buy (2) Two Guys 25th Anniversary Cigars for $25
OPTION #3 – Buy (12) Two Guys 25th Anniversary Cigars for $99 and we’ll include Issue #1 of the Comic Book “The Adventures of Two Guys – Quest for the Best Cigar!”
This offer to buy these cigars will expire on September 29th, 2015 or while supplies last, whichever is sooner. As I get ready for Two Guys Smoke Shop’s 30th Anniversary just a few days away, I wanted to finally thank Pepin Garcia and Pete Johnson publicly for something they did 6 years ago. I also want the fans of their cigars to be able to try the cigars before they are just part of our history.
