Step back in time with Two Guys Cigars & the limited edition Two Guys 1985, a cigar released only three times in the company’s 40-year history. Created as a tribute to where it all began, this 7.5 x 50 cigar only available in a VHS Cassette of 5 Cigars honors the original occupant of the first store Video Barn, and the early days that sparked the journey of Two Guys Cigars. While the wrapper, binder, and filler remain undisclosed, the cigar delivers a detailed and evolving smoking experience from start to finish.
Visually, the cigar features a golden sandy-brown wrapper with a slight oily sheen throughout. Visible veins and seams are present, but well constructed.
The first third opens with a flash of cayenne pepper before settling into notes of honey, cream, and subtle nuttiness reminiscent of Honey Nut Cheerios. Classic Connecticut-style flavors of grassy hay and barnyard develop alongside hickory barbecue, bread, wheat, mesquite, dark chocolate, ginger, cinnamon, and mild paprika. The profile remains balanced while gradually introducing additional layers of flavor.
In the second third, barnyard and fresh leather become more noticeable as darker notes of coffee, hazelnut chocolate, and espresso move forward. Hints of vanilla and ginger remain present while lighter citrus notes similar to lemon rind and Fruit Stripe gum appear in the background. Salted butter richness and subtle white pepper continue to support the overall profile.
The final third sees an increase in strength, spice, and smoke output. Dry tobacco, leather, coffee, unsweetened iced tea, peanut, cashew, almond, dark chocolate, and earth notes become more dominant. A touch of spearmint appears briefly while the white pepper transitions toward a more Szechuan-style spice. Vanilla and ginger fade during the final portion of the cigar as the darker flavors remain consistent through the finish.
Overall, Two Guys 1985 completely exceeded expectations based on appearance. What starts as a seemingly straightforward lighter-profile cigar evolves into an impressively nuanced and complex smoking experience. The transitions are subtle but rewarding, especially for smokers willing to slow down, retrohale, and really pay attention to the cigar as it develops. Construction, draw, burn, and smoke production were all excellent from start to finish. It works beautifully as a morning cigar paired with coffee, yet offers enough depth and evolution to keep even seasoned smokers interested. Some STARS who mentioned they typically avoid lighter cigars found themselves impressed by the complexity and balance on display here. This is a box-worthy cigar and one that deserves a place in the rotation for smokers of all experience levels.
