This week on The Cigar Authority we took a look at the top 10 strongest cigars. We started the show with the Camacho Corojo which was part of the The Cigar Authority Care Package. The cigar came in at number 10 on our list. According to the Camacho website, “The story of the infamous Corojo seed spans generations, breaks boundaries, defies convention, and flies in the face of compromise — all in a quest to […]

When is a barber pole, not a barber pole? The answer in my book is when it’s the Neanderthal Genetic Deformity. The cigar features the wrapper of the Cromagnon Aquitaine (Habano) and Cromagnon (Broadleaf) but unless you look closely you might miss it. Technically speaking, it is a barber pole but it doesn’t have the definitive contrast in wrappers we all associate with the type of cigar. Cigar Review: Neanderthal Genetic Deformity Wrapper: Habano / Broadleaf (Barber […]
The World Cigar Smoking Championship by Rocky Patel ushers in a new decade for the Cigar Smoking World Championship. The Cigar Smoking World Championship is an international competition of “slow smoking” of cigars. Competitors compete in how slow they can smoke their cigar with time penalties given for such things as breaking your ash or burning the competition ring (cigar band). The official size of the competition is the 5 1/8 x 42 Mareva which, in 2019, was smoked non-stop from the initial light for 3 […]
This weekend on The Cigar Authority we celebrated Dos Hombre Day marking 30 years of the brand. As a bit of a cigar geek, I’ve always looked at bundle cigars with a bit of disdain. However, when you smoke as many cigars are I do, upwards of 6 cigars a day you need to find an affordable smoke or you will wind up in the poor house. We featured the Dos Hombre Dominican Toro in the […]
The Eiroa family knows Corojo and it all started with the original Camacho line prior to the sale to Davidoff. The Eiroa story of Corojo continued in 2012, when Christian started from scratch with a new company, CLE Cigars. The CLE Corojo was part of the initial brands released by Christian Eiroa and in 2017 the brand would get a face lift along with other cigars in the portfolio. The result is a line with better […]
The Liga Privada L40 was originally released in the fall of 2011. The name for the cigar is simple with the L for lancero and the 40 representing the ring gauge. It’s a cigar that is slow to trickle out each year due to a very limited production along with other sizes that fall into the Unico Series. Back in 2011-2014 the Liga Privada L40 was one of my favorite lancero sticks but it’s been […]
Los Caidos is Spanish for The Fallen and it comes to us from Steve Zengel who made the cigar at the Aganorsa factory in Nicragua as an extenson of honoring one of his closest friends, Chris Duncuff who lost his life on 9/11. In addition to honoring his friend, Los Caidos honors the fallen with its unique box design. Upon opening the 12 count box you will notice one cigar is missing. That open space is reserved for the End of […]
Whiskey Rebellion 1794 cigars by RoMaCraft Tobac take their name from the protest known as the Whiskey Rebellion, which began in 1791 under George Washington’s presidency. Washington’s Treasury Secretary, Alexander Hamilton, introduced a tax on all distilled spirits in an attempt to lower the nation’s debt without raising the nation’s already-high import taxes; the Whiskey Tax was the first tax on domestic goods in United States history, and was opposed by many rural American communities. Crowned Heads has a long history of music and cigars. Juarez follows that history with its naming from the song Cocaine Blues which was written by Bob Dylan and made popular by Johnny Cash. As for the cigar, Jon Huber & Co. turned to a small factory in Esteli, Nicaragua named Tabacalera Pichardo instead of their past partners. The Crowned Heads Juarez was the second cigar smoked on the February 8th Episode of The Cigar […]
Karl Malone a former power forward for the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Lakers has teamed up with the first cigar factory of the Dominican Republic, La Aurora. Based in Santiago, Dominican Republic the company has been making cigars since 1903. The Barrel Aged by Karl Malone features tobaccos aged for six years, with the binder and filler spending 6 months in a rum barrel. After the aging, the wrapper is applied before being placed […]
